EVALUATION RATING SYSTEM DEFINED

For Players, Parents, Coaches and Scouts

Thank you for viewing our Mickey Owen Baseball School 'College Planning Showcase' Evaluation Web Site. To best interpret each player's evaluation you will want to read this page, refer to our 'Evaluation Rating System' Chart (please refer to menu) and other reference material provided. It is important that you read very carefully the next few paragraphs that explain our rating system before you begin to refer to a particular player evaluation.

First, other than the running times, MPH radar (Jugs Gun) readings and catcher pop times all other ratings on the evaluation are a subjective grading assessed and compiled by our 'Showcase Coordinator'. In arriving at a rating our Coordinator consults with other on site staff to determine an appropriate grading. Please note that these ratings may vary slightly based on the individual Showcase Coordinator who is a veteran Mickey Owen professional coach and/or pro scout.

Second, the grading is based on a player's current ability. This grading will improve over time as he gains physical maturity, improvement of kinesthetic awareness and development of his baseball skills. For players ages 13-16 they have the greatest opportunity for improvement. Players 17-18 also will improve. At the age of 18-19, this is a realistic current view of abilities for possibility of college play (there are some players who develop their physical maturation at 19 or 20 based on their family history, please take this into account).

Third, the evaluation and our rating system are there primarily to provide a guide for how to better plan for baseball in college. It is also designed to hi-light areas that a player may wish to focus his attention for improvement. This evaluation is not a be all and end all. It should not 'pigeon-hole' a player to a particular destiny or discourage him from striving to be the best he can be. It is simply a guide, a tool and a reference to help better plan a strategy for college.

Fourth, evaluations are based on observations made on the date of the Showcase by our Showcase Coordinator and his staff, and follow customary professional baseball protocols. Our 'Evaluating Rating System' (ERS) and 'Overall Rating' (OR) score are designed to provide a general guide as to a player's future ability to actually play in college, not just sit on the bench. Our (ERS) and (OR) are not intended to preclude any particular college level of play or future baseball success.
